Rings - General RA Tips

Submitted by knuckles_sonic8

Some general tips for RA'ing stages in ShTH.

1. Checkpoints can make or break you when going for a "good stat". Don't always head for them as soon as you see them. Get the rings in the area FIRST, then head back. Every ring total past 40 (I believe) grants you 20 rings from each check. Anything under 40 will get you 10. Strategize carefully as once you reach 100, you'll only get 1 UP's from that point onwards.

2. The Egg Vacuum is great for RA'ing. However, a word of caution. Be careful which enemies you suck up and do so from afar to avoid getting hit. Use the Vacuum to suck up rings; forget/avoid enemies if you can. If it gets really bad w/ enemies and you're fearful of getting caught in crossfire or something like that, then suck up the enemies to avoid losing your rings. Also, DO NOT suck up the crates (intentionally or unintentionally) as you'll lose anything that's inside them, including ring boxes. Break the crates MANUALLY, without a weapon. Either use your melee attack(s), or your Spin Dash. Temporarily drop the Vacuum to do so and then pick it up again.

3. Be sure that when you're Light Dashing, you get all rings along that trail. Also, you can always go back to reach areas you were previously at. Use this to strategize when there are rings in multiple areas/within the vacinity. This was a smart decision on the developer's part, in my opinion.

4. It goes without saying that shields really help. Know each level well and where they're located.

5. At times, the green G.U.N crates carry ring boxes. (E.g, there is a Green Crate in the beginning area of Prison Island that contains a ring box.) Be sure to destroy them with a firearm/item of some sort.

6. Be careful when using your Dark/Hero gauge. When RA'ing, DO NOT use the ability. Use the invulnerability to destroy enemies and collect rings without interruptions form enemies. But in a stage like Prison Island, caution is needed. If you find the Red Light, take the flying saucer with you as you will run out before you reach the end of the path and you'll continually lose rings despite your best efforts.
