Couldn't find the edit button, if there is one.. o_O
got 1:59 on act1 and 1:06 on act2 so I guess there's no point for this topic anymore ^^. I haven't recorded them yet but I plan on doing so real soon (I'm waiting for my capture card to arrive in the mail)
thanks for pointing out that TAS to me, I should have gotten it before heh.

Wow. Just . . . wow.
What tools were used for this? He's only got abuse of the game engine listed, which I thought was half the fun :) The site says emulators; does this mean slowdown, savestates or what?
It's 100% fake. 150 000 re-records were used for that video. Slowdown + save states + re-record + frame by frame = TAS
that site has a load of videos like that. Im not a big fan of them but they're still really enjoyable and it shows some tricks. Theyre not all possible to do with human hands but some of them are.

If you haven't seen Sprint's TAS of Sonic 3, that's probably a good place to start. Most of my newer times have stolen ideas from that (except Marble Garden 2).
http://bisqwit.iki.fi/nesvideos/632S.html ftw.
Watched it, some of it is obviously impossible (being a tas and all :P) but it did give me an accurate idea of what to improve. I just have a little problem with the first big jump in 1 AND in 2.
I understand that the jumps are very dependant of the floor, so do you have any tips on that? (act2 for exemple, you have the red spring, the loop and the jump). I can't seem to get that one 100%, there has to be a way outside of practice and timing to get it 100%?
Oh and in the TAS, he takes sonic's path to take the boss. Wouldn't it be much faster to take the knuckle path? I found I cut some seconds out of it, plus the boss is lower because knuckle can't jump as high.. So for sonic he can go down real fast.
Also, I see he uses the lightning shield in act1. Obviously, taking it would speed things a lot but that jump in knuckle's room is near impossible no? Well unless you wait until you can see something.
Thanks for your input (sorry for my suckiness at the English language, I'm French ;)

Hey, I'm new to Sonic speedrunning but not to running in general (Ran megaman zero 2 and 3 previously, anyways). ..
Here are my questions.
My best time for ice cap act 1 is 2:02, 5 seconds slower than mike's time. I make maybe 1 second worth of mistake, not 5.. Can you elaborate on the route? (I pretty much had to figure out the route by myself, seeing as there is no video reference ^^)
As for act 2, using mike's video again, I can get a similar time of course.. But the #1 spot is much, much, faster. What's the secret here?
