Competition Central / Re: Got a challenge for you.

The reason I never publish Ring Attack videos is because of a constant want to optimise it lol. Have always loved the ideas of fast RAs, add a little bit more spice to what is usually standard play.

Same, Sonic 2 for me as well. Not because of difficulty really, but because they can't stop perpetually jerking it off with uninspired variants of it. HEY REMEMBER THE SONIC 2 SS GUYS?!?! Yeah I do, it was shit. Blue Sphere 4 lyfe

Based work SB, based work. Shame there is no social media linking ability for TSC or I'd say it would be wise to tie the person's twitter handle (if applicable) to them. (ala the ZSR record announce account)

Yes don't worry I'm aware you still have revising to do, or I wouldn't have been compelled to post that point in the first place.

News and Updates / Re: 2014 Schedule
« on: August 03, 2014, 09:42:06 am »
A few observations/points on my behalf:
- Some of the days seem a little slow fizzle, at least as far as my knowledge of the games goes. Casual/multiplayer games are good to get people involved, but IMO shouldn't bookmark the end of a day of streaming. If we really can't run a 24 hour gig, then leave viewers with a reason to come back, like a good solid run.
- Market this if you are a runner involved with a large stream. Don't just mention it once and leave it, hammer it into people that this IS an event that is happening. Considering in the end TSC itself has little to no marketing clout, this is all on you guys to spread word unfortunately, or it just won't work.
- I don't remember how it got labelled last year, but let us wipe the title of "TSC marathon" for shorthand mentioning. Many people have no clue what TSC means, and to them it may be presumed to be just another little clique/stream buddy group. The Sonic Center Marathon is much clearer, informs people it is Sonic-centered (noticed word play in editing...niiiice). This would probably be done anyway but I'm just reminding how important it is to differ.
- Is anyone capable of whipping up a little montage video as a small trailer? Having something to link to people like that would prove invaluable, and is a tangible thing to get hyped for rather than just the mention of a marathon. Another idea could be a small standardised banner to insert into your overlay until the marathon happens, which could easily substitute for reminding viewers of it.
The line up has more than enough talent and variety to maintain viewership. Speed running is bigger than ever, and that can translate to the most successful event TSC has held if exposed enough.
Of course, just my two cents, so doesn't need to matter a lick if you don't want it to.

News and Updates / Re: Sonic's future goes BOOM and site shenanigans
« on: February 07, 2014, 02:26:25 am »
Relieved to hear you are here and composed Thorn. You may not know me beyond a handful of conversations but I did get pretty worried about how you personally were reacting to the reactions to your reactions (this makes sense).
I know by status I am still a lowling within the community, hopefully clawing up steadily, but if any of those administering change need a further perspective don't hesitate to throw an idea my way. I see myself as a stuck in the middle kind of runner. I love ILs and TSC, I love the Twitchese citizens too of course (the runners at least, chatters need to prove they aren't mongoloids to me on a case-by-case basis).
For change, the idea of expanding the reach of race nights certainly seems like a smart opening step. It is borderline already set up for mass consumption. Whether this is what you want or not though is down to US. As a community. I feel this is an opportunity to embrace many ideals for the site, rather than slanting further into any one given persons mindset.
The concept of full game runs still sits weird with me. Yeah sure seems decent I guess, you could link any streams to any runners (or YT videos if they aren't streamers). Maybe even move in a unique full-game (but EXTREMELY heavily moderated) category for each game. At the end of the day we want to complete whole games as fast as possible. How do you do this the fastest? By getting every level down to as low a time as possible, meaning we already sit in a pretty strong position in regards to this right now.
Not to force an idea, but the general consensus in the irc when Parax linked your letter was one of sadness and confusion. Obviously I can't speak for these fabled Skype groups, but you can say you are disinterested or unenthused, but you are still relevant.
Also I feel like Knuckles has sucked all of the bad design out of the other three. Yep.

Rules Revisions / Re: Gens/BizHawk and similar emulators should be banned from competition
« on: January 22, 2014, 06:19:51 am »
Hairy issue we have here for sure, this news of so many TAS-ready equipped emulators is worrying.
The older systems certainly require some type of monitoring. Even extremes similiar to the idea of a SDA-approved DOSbox would be useful, but let's face it, we are far too deep into competition to introduce something like that without stepping on many many toes for it to work. Many, MANY people know much more about the workings and progression of these emulators features than I do, so I will hold my tongue here on this.
I don't know about BizHawk, but wouldn't Gens be widely used enough to have a significant amount of records pulled even by proven legitimate runners? (nvm they will be grandfathered I've been told). I always thought that was a popular one, could be wrong though. Also, would this not result in extra infrastructure to note what emulator was used in any submitted stats?

I said it to you in your stream but again I'm totally okay with what we currently have going. Should be clear at least chart number wise now that 100% files have been properly looked at, the rest is rules and where people stand. I think it's safe to say the ban on items is agreed upon and the less infinite ring marathon stages the better.

Makes sense now that you mention the time limit :P I guess let them in with the exception, see how it goes.
Also this, totally missed it :P
The ring counter doesn't stop at 999.

Honestly for the sake of consistency (ala Colors/few Gen levels) I would take those levels out of the Ring charts instead of making an exception :/ Idk though.
One a side note, how are there actually spoilers in here o.o Literally just zone names

Seems good to me, as does RA being in Normal Play. As for infinite rings, I believe the glass balls in the tube levels pay out 3 rings per ball for as long as you want. May be mistaken because I can't really be bothered grinding to 999 >_>

Just goes to show the spirit of Sonic speed running hasn't waned one bit :)
Here's to the admins and prominent members who have kept it up and running for so long. Let's hope things continue changing in a good way, the abundance of streaming is highlighting Sonic runners to new viewers every day! Let's just try and send a few of them this way to join the fight eh? ;)

Okay. I can definitely put my hand up here.
As most of you know I am all the way over in Aussie Land so I could help cover some of the odd-hours commentary/donation-wise if you guys are serious about gunning 24 hours.
As for what I can do, Unwiished of course (and if FBM or FF don't want to take up the mantle I suppose I could do SCD11 as well). Unwiished happens to have lots and LOTS of little tricks and battle skips to talk about, so the commentary wouldn't just be "Ok....ok.....ok....ok good".
Biggest problem with this is the fact that a full game run borders on 4 hours, would probably be better to slot 4:30 just to be safe. I mean if it's going to be a 3-4 day event running 24/7 then I guess it isn't much of an issue.
As for stream quality testing, I am getting both a Dazzle AND better internet come December. I mean I suppose you could go look at the SCD11 streams I did back in the day http://www.twitch.tv/crypticjacknife/b/306959395 but as I said my net is going to get much better in the near future, so if you want the Unwiished quality test you are going to need to wait a bit.
In the very least I know I can help with commentary. You know how to hit me up if you have questions.

Competition Central / Re: Sonic Generations Speed Glitch Execution Dispute
« on: August 18, 2012, 06:27:03 am »Quote
And to have competition you can't arbitrarily ban things because you don't like them. The issue here is broken and modded controllers, not the glitch itself.
Well, if you DON'T ban it, then you are allowing broken/modded controllers, because you won't be able to moderate it, so I'd say banning the glitch and banning modded controllers are fairly intertwined here. You can't just allow it and instantly know whether a sub is with a broken controller, a modded one, or even just an old one with wear.

GET A LOAD OF THIS!
Okay I need to weigh in my opinion here [#3 yeah boi holla to the high ranker]. People who know me from the irc should be quite (QUITE) aware that I am strictly against any and all forms of the speed glitch (Both Classic/Modern). Part of it is in hopes that maybe people will realise how insanely divided this glitch makes Generations. As I am a PC player, I don't have the convenience of doing it with little to no effort, so hell, if I WOULD do it it probably would be through means like this, with the rubber bands and what not. Because I like to play the game too.
Would a decision like this going negative badly affect the Generations charts? HELL YES. Would it make the competition more accessible instead of Classic records being 1 of the 4 (estimate) out of 111 people on the site who actually use this trick? HELL YES.
I think the biggest question here is do we want records or competition?
That's my say, you guys can work out the rest. As someone who may not even finish the few Extra/Ring charts I have left to go, I am just speaking as someone who was apart of the heat of records flying which-way-but-anywhere when these glitches were getting absolutely understood.

I don't think the bosses should actually have SS charts on second thought. Getting every ring not only takes time, but all bosses (bar final) literally gain no advantage from being super, as they are all methodical "timing based windows of opportunity" style bosses, as opposed to "spam homing attacks till it dies" bosses, so you are literally hitting it optimally with normal Sonic, and it would be no faster as a result with SS.

1. It is indeed White Park, don't listen to the crazy guy.
2. The platforming section is indeed also a part of the autoscroller, the boss though and whether it warrants a category is down to you guys, I don't know what you're bare minimum for Time charts are.
3. Not that I am aware of, rings aplenty and nothing stops you from going Super apart from Team Actions, which may actually end up being just as fast as Super Sonic due to it being so fast haha

Everything sounds legit. Screw SF1 off it's damn near pointless to put it in the Time Charts. Also Times for SS's would not come down to hold boost to win, there's a trick or two you can shove in there. That pretty much only applies to the first one.

It really isn't so bad, just hit pause when you pass a second, just need some timing. Still only takes like 5 seconds to set up for another run.
