Check out the SA2(B) guides section, there's a Chao guide written by twilightL and various score attacking guides, as well as the SA2(B) videos (sort by category and look under Scores).
These forums are pretty dead these days, you're better off asking questions on the Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Speedrunning Community Discord server.

Always wholesome to hear from longtime classic fans. Hope you enjoy the maps and they're of some use to you. Nothing wrong with casual running, hope to see you on the Sonic CD charts, maybe you'll give me a run for my old money :P

Some of his bosses in the Advance games were pretty mental, I mean Egg Frog in Adv2 could reverse gravity, and Egg Pinball in Adv3 you had to play pinball against the fucker...
I agree with the Rush games having wicked bosses though

I see; I suppose for comprehensiveness' sake we should still add charts for Ultimate, though will it even garner much speedrunning attention if it differs so little gameplay-wise from the original game?

Thank you for all of your contributions guys, think it's safe to say no one is cheating here and we can move on. sonicandamy, please don't call BS on people unless you actually have reasonable suspicion and evidence of foul play lol.
R3FR4G, I don't think there's any need to pedantically remove your stats from the charts that were obtained with only graphic/cosmetic game mods, as there is no evidence that said mods actually affect gameplay mechanics.

Thanks for the detailed analysis Zurggriff. I agree Sonicspeedruner's videos look too realistically filmed to be meticulously hoaxed.
Well Niczur was last active on the site yesterday, so he's still lurking but hasn't weighed in on this. I suppose he should replace his stats (and ideally videos for them) performed on a modded version of the game with ones performed on a vanilla version?

Thanks man, really appreciate the enthusiasm to help out and ideas (:
I read and replied to your PM, though not sure if my response went through. I think making a list of broken links for each game and division/character thereof (and noting what to do with them, e.g. remove entirely, or replace with a reupload/updated run) would be the most straightforward approach.
It might be worth making a shared Google doc or something and linking it here, so that nobody's doing redundant work. Whether an admin implements the changes is another story, but at least we'll have a list for comprehensiveness' sake (which we can then post as a forum post too).
You can begin with the classic games if you like as you suggested and I can comb through more modern ones. Of course if anyone wants to lend a hand just let us know!

Okay, well Stellar, do you know if the proportional HUD size changes depending on the native resolution setting? Seems like (as evidenced by the health bar) R3FR4G is using at least a cosmetic mod though which is sus; again it would be interesting to see if this strat can be replicated on the vanilla version (the others' and your time is very close at least).
Well, Niczur last logged in 3 days ago at the time of writing (so if you're reading this dude, we'd appreciate if you could shed some light on this too and explain what config you used). R3FR4G hasn't logged in in a year and a half however, so you'll have to try contact him via YouTube or Twitch (on which he's still actively doing SADX runs).

Thanks very much for chiming in, yeah I suspected they may just be playing the original PC version.
That just leaves Sonicspeedruner to investigate but I'm not convinced of any foul play here. He's got a lot of other Sonic runs on his channel (also of SA2B and Heroes) going back almost a decade, all awkwardly camera-recorded on the same TV, you can see the gradual improvement and they seem legit.

Unfortunately this subforum is long dead (and you can only edit posts, not delete), but I like your idea, sounds like a fun challenge; maybe you can make a video to demonstrate it to us :P
And yeah, I imagine it'd be pretty straightforward to ROM hack; there's already a hack by Puto called 'Super Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog', and you can use a level select cheat in Sonic 2 to get all emeralds etc., so for instance you could hack the ring counter to start at 50 rather than 0, and just jump at the start of an act to go super.

« on: July 29, 2022, 06:48:51 pm »
I stand corrected; I searched the forum and saw a post from Parax stating that cosmetic mods were banned for all games, falling under the umbrella rule "The original game and all its contents must be preserved and unmodified" (imo the general competition rules should be updated to more clearly reflect this). I don't think that the "professional look" of the game is important so much as the potentiality of a mod side affecting gameplay mechanics.
I agree that ideally players should not fuck with display settings and such that obscure the default look of the game, albeit in Sonicspeedruner's case it seems rather negligible to jump at calling BS (and as for the deodorant positioning, I think we can take off the detective cap and conclude the most likely explanation is that he uses his bedroom for things other than vidya).

I'm not an expert on this game, but are you sure Niczur and R3FR4G aren't playing the PC version (I don't recall a rule against purely cosmetic mods for this game)? If not, then yeah it would be interesting to see footage of these runs replicated on the PC version or on console (and at least key input files for the emulator runs to verify legitimacy).
I feel like you may be jumping the gun a bit on Sonicspeedruner however; simply having the TV muted or on a different picture setting between recordings isn't much grounds to call BS lol. But again, it would be good to see some clearer videos if possible, for comparison's sake.

I realise this site's a bit of a ghost town these days, but thought I'd post about this anyway (maybe pedantic, but I think it's worth addressing).
Firstly, looking through videos for different games, I notice that a lot of the links are now broken; either the site/channel doesn't exist anymore, or the uploader took down/moved the video, or the player superseded it with a better run, etc. I would be happy to trawl through and make a list of all such submitted videos, so that they can be removed or the links fixed. (Also, I like the site feature where a video automatically becomes submitted if it's linked in a stat comment, though this results in redundant entries when runners improve their runs, as previous entries are kept.)
Secondly, particularly with all the embedded videos, it made me think, have any admins/mods made any backups of them? Just for posterity it may be worth doing, it would be a shame if a lot of content was lost. It would be quite a task for one person to have to download and store every video, but perhaps people would be happy to make backups for certain games and categories etc.

Information Kiosk / Re: Subsite Charts Down?
« on: June 28, 2022, 08:02:04 am »
That's true, although the links still exist; I'd wager the charts were simply taken down for maintenance/updates and never reinstated. Plenty of charts on the main site have been dead in the water for yonks but if nothing else it's nice to have a memorial of speedrunning days of yore. I like the compartmentalisation of tangential franchises into subsites; integrating them into the main site seems like overkill to me.
But thanks for the input, and I agree the M&S Olympic games lend themselves nicely to competition. Anyway perhaps someday when I'm bored I'll pester GerbilSoft on IRC again =P

« on: June 24, 2018, 05:19:33 pm »
Congrats on the discovery hfactor66 haha; who knows where else this bug permeates. Curse you programmers and testers for making our lives harder! :P
I still stick to my guns feeling that the best solution for competition would simply be having players keep track of rings collected in their runs and subtract potential duplicates (and in the case of a score attack, thus amend the score), recording the run to watch back if need be. Thanks for the treasure hunt mission analogy hfactor66; I'm not saying we should favour consistency over reason but if such a ruling appears to work effectively elsewhere and is also perfectly reasonable in this context, why not utilize it here? People can just ring/score attack Sonic-only if they're unwilling to do this and sacrifice a few rings only attainable with Tails, after all. Yes banning S+T would eliminate the issue but I feel it unnecessarily stifles competition and optimal strats.
Allowing the ring shenanigans outright seems a bit gratuitous to me, introducing unnecessary RNG. Nuking the charts, agreeing with Zurggriff, seems overkill; the rules strongly imply double ring credit earning is illegal so it's not like players have been in the dark about its validity, so agreeing with Zurggriff the "most submissions do not have proof that no rings were duplicated" argument could be extended to any stat on the site. S1 2013 ring/score attack competition looks pretty dead these days (so I think nuking the charts would be a waste) and skimming the charts, potential double ring credit earning doesn't seem to have posed a problem thus far anyway.
Also yes we could require video proof for every ring and score run performed with S+T but again, I feel this is a bit excessive for stats of all calibre; we should operate on a system where we trust players to verify the validity of the stats they're submitting (then again, in this day and age I don't imagine recording and uploading videos being a hassle for most and am thus pretty nonchalant about this; still I think chart competition should be as accessible and convenient for players as possible).
Finally while I don't think it's a big deal what with the lack of competition, may as well revert your 116 Marble 3 stat hfactor66 until there's a verdict, for the sake of chart integrity.
Think I've addressed everything; of course I'm just a lowly user here but merely my two cents. Hopefully admins and mods soon can come to an agreement and revise the rules. Long live S1 2013! =P

Thank you for confessing and apologizing xXMegaManXx; I for one appreciate the honesty, and I admire you for leaving your cheating days in the dust lol and vowing to compete sincerely from here on out.
As SDM said unfortunately you won't be allowed to compete on the charts anymore, though honestly TSC's pretty dead these days anyway and the Sonic speedrunning community's much more active elsewhere (and if you want IL charts there are other popular sites like CyberScore); nothing to stop you speedrunning Sonic!
If you can establish a good reputation as an honest competitor/runner elsewhere, your submission privileges may be reinstated here in the future, though that's for the admins to decide at the time.

Just chiming into this dead site :P to say, concurring SDM, I think it's pretty sensible to allow cleverly manipulating Tails' AI (so long as gameplay's kept 1P), in keeping with the classics like the strat Zeupar pointed out, and the rules should be revised to explicitly clarify this.
One could argue both ways for allowing S+T flight in S1 2013 so long as double ring credits aren't earned, vs. banning it outright; personally I think the former, à la CyberScore's ruling, is best and the lesser of two evils. I feel players have a responsibility to ensure they don’t earn double ring credits with S+T flight, and if it's too difficult to manually track they should record their runs, which I don't think is much to ask for this in this day and age to be honest; I also feel, like hfactor66, players shouldn't be penalized for accidentally grabbing onto Tails where it doesn't otherwise affect the run (which can unnecessarily complicate some strats).
Ultimately more active runners of the affected games need to discuss both of these rulings (on TSSC or wherever convenient) and come to a consensus; it's good of you to check and raise the discussion hfactor66.
On a side note, the "difficult to verify without video proof" argument could be extended to numerous legal tricks and at the end of the day, you have to operate on a merit and trust system in cases where video proof isn't mandatory (but yeah, it is here universally for 1st place stats anyway, at least).
Finally I also feel it's a given S+T flying in Mania should be legal as there's no reason it shouldn't be (we still need official rules for Mania derp).
