News and Updates / Re: Sonic Lost World charts are now live!

Why isn't NiGHTMARE Zone in the Rings chart? Because it's DLC? I don't think it allows for potentially infinite Rings.

There's also the secret '?' zones: they lack a time attack mode, but Rings (and animals) should be fine.

I'm planning to buy it soon, and I encourage you to buy it too, the Gamepad uses look pretty neat. You can read many complaints about the Wii U around the Internet, but many of them are senseless flaming from PS3/Xbox fanboys.

Did someone know about the hidden spring to reach the higher path of the 2D temple without running on the wall? By the way, I don't think I deserve so many points, since it was me who suggested this challenge, but yeah... :P

I've done 2:57:03 with 1 Ring, and then 2:41:00 with 5 Rings. In my opinion, avoiding Rings isn't that hard, except for two spots in the 2D temple section. The difficult thing is speed running it, since you have to maneuver around Rings at high speed and manage your limited boost.

Rules Revisions / Re: Unbanning Team Blast Glitch
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:40:08 pm »
After reading ShadowJacky's description of the glitch at SDA, that it greatly fucks up the game (especially Team Dark, Team Rose and bosses), allowing it would be a sin. It's much more harmful than similar banned glitches such as the second rule of SA2.

Competition Central / Re: Sonic Generations Speed Glitch Execution Dispute
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:30:55 pm »
The only logical solutions I see are banning the glitch altogether or leaving things how they are now.
Banning certain controller issues sounds incredibly awkward: I can tell you that controller advantages and disadvantages exist in pretty much every game, such as the Wiimote's motion unresponsiveness in SUWii (and lack of a homing attack button), the constant quick stepping glitch experienced by some Sonic Generations PC players, and people who use a keyboard (its layout is different than that of a controller). And about the rubber band thing: as long as you don't use some kind of cheat feature such as autofire, IMO you're free to manage your controller in any way you feel its better; it's no different than finding a way to shake the Wiimote faster.
And about the total ban: have you considered if the speed glitch is worth joining the list of "big glitches that fuck up the entire game" like those in SA2 and Heroes? Probably not in Generations, but in Unleashed is a different thing (BJG!).

Just to clarify: my vision of the charts would be exactly the same as Aitamen's, just merging both futures for Times.

My opinion on this is that Times should have charts for all time periods, but Rings and Scores would better stay "general". That is, you start the Zone in the present and you can time travel as much as the time posts allow you, to take advantage of other time periods. I prefer having more room for exploration in non-linear categories. I wouldn't mind taking out the "starting at present" part.

« on: May 18, 2012, 01:14:20 pm »
OK, with Super Sonic at least, I'm pretty sure a score attack of DEMk.2 will need a focus on time bonus. I don't even think reaching 999 Ring is possible, you'd have to be a complete monster at precision jumping. :P
On a general note: a good time bonus along with some Rings is likely to push your score past 100k in most stages!

About Super Sonic stats: do you need to finish the stage transformed, or just using him at some moments is enough? I say this because of the combo moves.
By the way, doesn't this game have the classic 10 minute time limit? If this is the case, autoscroller scores aren't actually broken, maybe just boring as hell, but has anyone tested if time bonus wouldn't end up being more important than Rings in at least some of those levels?

RetroGamer is a site that lets you play certain old games online after simply downloading a mywebsearch toolbar and a well-updated Java.
The playable games include Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic 3D and Sonic Spinball, all of them with really nice framerate and quality. By the way, would it be legit to submit stats for those games obtained in RetroGamer?

Competition Central / Sonic Generations handicap
« on: January 27, 2012, 01:31:14 pm »
This is for those of U who are a bit sick of replaying Sonic Generations over and over and need some kind of "break" or "something different". You should know that speedrunning this game centers on and requires mastery of both Sonics' signature abilities: the Spin Dash and the Boost. Well, I've been able to complete ALL 18 main acts without using them even once. The only place in all of them that requires an X/square press is the clock opening in RR1. I've also tried to speed run them that way: I got, for example, 2:57 in CC2 and 4:55 in PW2.
So, the handicaped challenge I'm proposing is: Complete any main act as fast as possible without using the Spindash/Boost at all and without equippable skills!

Rules Revisions / Re: ? Boxes
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:46:14 pm »
Personally, I find entertaining to try a Ring attack with random boxes, mainly because I don't mind getting the world record, just my personal record, and I can then replay the levels to attempt a higher Ring count. It only gets frustrating when I try for a dozen times to get all the Rings again, and I end up with 5 or 10 less than my top. I can't say if it's better or worse, just... with greater variety of results.
Now, what you should REALLY look into is Team Chaotix's Ring charts in Sonic Heroes. Whenever Team Blast is in effect, you essentially get one random box per defeated enemy. I find that very awkward, and it greatly differs from the general idea of Ring attacking: some levels offer an easy 999 just from spamming Team Blast, and the amount of randomness is so ridiculous that it reaches nonsense and it's not at all entertaining. Changing this would definitely raise competition there, as well as make Chaotix Rings consistent with other teams'. And the only rule we need is "As Team Chaotix, you can't defeat enemies while under the effects of the Team Blast" for the Rings division, and maybe negating that rule for the Freestyle division.

^Yes, I haven't been able to reach them, my Spindash Jumps never get high enough. But I'm more intrigued about the "ghost" Ring that Millernusgaming got in his video. That one CAN be collected, but I don't know if it even exists in PC.

^I was referring to the Rings chart, of course. That mission is ignored because its title suggests Ring competition would be nonsense. But I've found that there are more than one ring in the level, so Ring competition could make sense after all. I'd say the Vs. Vector challenge is even less competitive, yet it has a Rings chart.
I just wanted to put a response to the Rings-related discussions of this topic.

Sorry for the slight bump, but I think this is very important to note: Rooftop Run Act 1 Challenge 5 is called "One Ring Challenge".
OH REALLY! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_Ygj4Y_aVU
Millernusgaming got two rings, and I've seen 6 more in the level! With at least 8 Rings, isn't the purpose of the challenge defeated?
I'm posting it here because Cream's coop challenge is tracked for a similar reason, but this one isn't. What's the general opinion?

Haha! Funniest topic ever!:D
Now I understand why those quotes kick so much ass! Such an incompetent jerk submits fake stats, asks a silly common sense question to defend himself and then completely owns Paraxade! Swearing... he only said "bullshit", if that guy considers that a swear, he doesn't know the internet very well, to be honest... :)

I agree with tracking both "skill" and "no skills" separately, but if that ends up being impossible, skills should be allowed because they add a lot of variety. About the famous "MASSIVE SPOILER!!!11!" thing, let's give him a place: even if he sucks at gameplay, he's still Super Sonic.
About tracking side missions: everything (time, score and rings) that's suitable for competition should be there except when the layout is the same as the regular level.

Yeah, the sentences that always appear at the top of the main page. I find them rather funny! My favourite one is "Zizou really is lol".

Information Kiosk / Sonic Colours Wii: Super Sonic in ring charts
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:52:23 pm »
OK, I've started competing in Sonic Colours for the Wii and I came up with a suggestion: Why doesn't Super Sonic have ring charts? In any other games (except maybe Sonic 2 as Sonic) that would be pretty stupid, as the transformation constantly consumes rings, so a Super character ring attack would be just a matter of not transforming. But in Sonic Colours, Super Sonic isn't just a transformation: it's playing a whole different level. The lack of colour powers makes many paths inaccessible, many rings uncollectable and many rings much harder to collect. You'd sometimes NEED to transform in order to access some rings (for example, to break wisp blocks in TR6). In resume, ring attacking a level with Super Sonic offers a whole different task, sometimes duller but very challenging in some cases! The only levels in wich this wouldn't make a difference are those without colour powers available: SC3, AP5, AC4 and TV1.
So, here I'm asking for opinions about having Super Sonic in ring charts for this game (except those four levels).

Ah, the so awaited Sonic 4 is finally here! I would love to get this game, but I don't have enough Wii points :(
I like everything that I've seen about this game: the graphics and the music are awesome, speed and platforming seem to be well balanced and I don't mind those slope physics! :P
Also, about CS1 charts: I think the best we could do is disalowing the slot machine, as we do with any infinite ring source like dug up rings in SA/SA2; "You may not earn rings from the slot machine". That would make both ring and score charts perfect! (or almost)

Wikkity! / Map of Little Planet (About Sonic CD locations)
« on: August 20, 2010, 06:09:08 am »
Many of you should have already seen the picture attached below:
That's suppossed to be the Little Planet, where the events of Sonic CD take place. So, all the locations in Sonic CD must be somewhere in the map! Some areas are heavily implied, like the huge Eggman statue being Stardust Speedway or the island with crystals being Quartz Quadrant. But there aren't any official words telling us where are exactly all the locations of the areas in Sonic CD, so I'm unable to recognize some of them and there seems to be some locations completely out of place, like the strange green building. Any ideas about the locations of Sonic CD areas in this map?

What about this?:
In a boss fight, if you die or select to restart and then the opponent gets hit for apparently no reason, the time you get is void.
I think that's the point: the boss gets hit at the beginning without you doing anything.
