Yup, that seems to match the screenshot. Is it like that in all the Genesis Sonic games?

Hax? Well, sure, it was a screenshot-grabbing playthrough after all.
As for the 20 ring limit when you get hit, I actually thought it was a bit more, e.g., in the "hax" screenshot it appears that more than 20 rings fall out.
