There are limits to how much of a piece you can use within fair use though. How long is the Nostalgia Critic's segment on The Room? I doubt he'd run afoul of copyright law but I'm sure there's some stupid loophole that Wiseau's moron lawyers found.

Or maybe this is like the Archie Comics lawsuit and someone's just lost his mind.

well, I'm about to prove that it happened. But first my notes.

I was all for waiting, since I had had the foresight to eat beforehand (the particular member of Ben's fleet* we took is the only one that ever induces car sickness in me), but Ben and AD trumped me :p. I also think it wise to point out the lols of us meeting at Kerby's Coney Island. Coney Islands are very much a southern Michigan thing, but for those fo you who aren't familiar with the term? Chili dogs. LOL Chili dogs. Oddly, I was the only one who didn't get one, as I generally don't like hot dogs. My burger and fries were awesome though. Also, on the way to the arcade I had my very first Orange Jullius. Too bad it's a milk product. :(

We also did some drooling over the gamestop and reminiscing about Babbages. Ahh, the good old days. The arcade we stopped at... I don't remember the name, but it had an eagle. LOL Americana, lol Eagleland TV tropes. :3

At some point, I don't remember how, we ended up mentioning Dateline NBC. I don't need to explain the jokes that ensued. You can guess.

IIRC, Ben also made a crude joke about my last name.

Anyway, the better of the two pictures is attached. Ben was extremely worried we wound run into someone he doesn't like, so he wasn't on the ball about telling us he was taking pictures. That's why I look so nervous and have my eyes closed. >_<

* Ben's Fleet is his collection of vehicles. Some are not his, but he has access to them. He owns about five cars, his mom leaves one of hers at the house, and then he can borrow his grandparents' whenever the heck he wants. So the fleet consists of about seven vehicles, four of which are classic cars and two of which I can actually drive. The count goes up to eight if you count my car. Hypothetically I could have driven the one we took that day, a lol Pontiac, but I'm too inexperienced for anything south of M-46, I kid you not.

^ Hey, I'm not saying I don't care about Rolken or anything. >_> If we're going to declare leaving topics to be silly, we shouldn't discriminate and treat ones differently because they were made by different people. That only encourages more people to make them.

The fact that we shouldn't have to all be sad at a leaving topic is actually a redeeming feature of the community: nobody here gets scarred for life by something petty and never comes back. They either leave forever out of boredom, leave to deal with real life for a bit, or leave to take a break due to feelings towards the community or the purpose of competing or whatnot. The fact that it's only morons who leave here feeling discriminated against or insulted is a pretty good thing.

tl;dr: Please don't make me out to be some sort of inconsiderate jerk. :(

I merely didn't want to speak for you, hence the qualifier. I figured you were sad too but who am I to put words in your mouth? Plus I also meant to tease you about being an inconsiderate jerk a little, since you aren't one. Sorry that came out wrong.

I made this topic in order to explain that I am not updating things at TSC and make people aware of whom they should be contacting if they have concerns. Sympathy was not my goal.

Perhaps Thorn aside though, all the :('s come from the fact that we care about you and want you to know that.

I feel you on that, Dez. I won't bother with PC emulation. I've got a Genesis, a yobo (cheap knockoff that plays NES, SNES, and Genesis Carts), and Sonic Mega Collection to choose from. Sometimes you do have to emulate to get the best performance, but that's waht SMC is for :)

Yobo's not mine, it's my boyfriend's, but he shares. <3

Have you tried getting your wife into Sonic? :3

So THAT'S why cheese doesn't bother me, but icecream melts my tongue...  I'd no idea!

Lactose intolerance has nothing to do with taste or anything; it's purely digestive. If something causes other symptoms it's not lactose intolerance, and may be an allergy. Also, if you react to things that have traces of milk in them regardless of their sugaryness (say, having similar reactions to cheese and milk), it's probably an allergy.

Further, most sweet milk products (yogurt, frozen yogurt, soft serve, but it seems not so much regular ice cream) are sweetened with milk solids, which are almost all lactose instead of other sugars. So they cause me more problems than milk itself does. I've actually become violently ill from drinking a quantity of yogurt that, had it been milk, would have done little more than make me gassy.

Also, I second this job business. I has no moneyz.

Competition Central / Re: Idea for version differences
« on: April 28, 2009, 10:03:32 pm »
Don't even think about it.

Just because you can't go out and buy a DC/GC/whatever doesn't mean that others can't prevail over you. Stop whining. <_<

But seriously, I don't have a DC and I'm not complaining. When/if I get one I will stun you all with hitherto unexpected skills.

For the 2D games, I can understand resistance to chart splitting due to the relative ease of emulation. For the 3D games? Do you know how hard it is to find a working Dreamcast these days? I thought one of the things about TSC is a focus on letting everyone compete? I don't have a really strong opinion on this because I'll never chart high enough for this crapt o matter and I see how trying to level the field is a hot mess, but I do find your particular argument annoying. Somewhat classist, even. What if there's a version difference between the PS3 and 360 versions of a game? Do you know what a financial burden that is to a serious competitor? If the version differences vary that's one thing, but what if they're all onesided, toward one system? What if it's the system that happens to be more expensive or rarer?

The point of the rules of submission is to allow relatively equal competition. This is why a number of glitches are banned, as I understand it, because they destroy competition. Version differences divide competition into two tiers--those who have both the choice system and the skills, and everyone else. And yet, these two tiers are not indiccated in the charts. That seems a little silly to me and I can accept that it's too much of a mess to try and fix, but I cannot accept that people who have concerns are "just whining."

Wikkity! / Re: I have a dream.
« on: April 28, 2009, 09:54:44 pm »
If I dream, because I cannot create, I can only re-create, the book idea will not work.  If I was to generate a book, it'd be something rendered from my memory, not created out of what I'd want it to say.

Let's say I wanted to read, say, The Three Musketeers.  I know the book, and it would be consistently inconsistent from the actual book.  I would read the text the way that my brain read the book.  I could look away, look back, and it'll be the same, because of the way I view books.

However, this is a case-based reason.

Conversely, if I was to attempt to summon a book that did not exist, I would only summon a blank book with said title...  again, I'd be able to look away, look back, and the title would be the same.  This is because of the way in which I view books: Absolute, and concrete.  It's be totally empty, until I started writing it.  I suppose I could write a book in my dream and re-call it later, because of the way my mind works...

Perhaps this is an artifact of my literary orientation or my spending hours on message boards and in chatrooms and IMs, but my mind can create the gist of non-existent text the same it creates the gist of non-existent speech. I almost never have fake books in my sleep and most of the sources I've seen don't refer to books for that purpose. What they do refer to are signs or notes. Hypothetically, according to these sources, if you looked at a fairly involved text sign (something a bit more complex than "STOP"), looked away, and read it again, the text would have changed. I have not been able to verify this but I doubt it would apply to me due to the unique way I seem to process written text.

Then,Eggman Came up and Said "You suck Bitch!" the rest was pretty much censored.

I don't follow, do you mean because of profanity? Or uh, is this what it sounds like? O.o

flyby's League / Re: Regular Season Coming to a Close

Honestly, the question is how low could you cut the bracket and have it still be exciting. I mean with 16 players, the tournament will have four rounds, right? The top 16, the top 8, the top four (semifinal) , and the top two (final); add an extra round if you're doing double elmination, which I strongly recommend. If you chop that in half, you have only three-four rounds instead of four-five. It's a question of how much suspense you want. It seems kind of strange to me that there are so few people being left out, since they must feel terribly alone, but I am not complaining about the familiar 16 competitor tournament bracket and wonder how it could work otherwise.

One interesting thing you could look into is three person head to heaed instead of two for the first round. Say you take the top twelve teams and put them in groups of three. For each triad, the best time goes into the main bracket, the second into a lower bracket, the third is eliminated. Then you have 8 teams left and 3-4 more rounds (8 players, 4 players, 2 players, then possibly the two brackets face off). That way more teams are excluded, but you tsill get a fairly lengthy tournament bracket.

As for multiperson rounds, if you only have one level per round, then you should have a rule mandating that team members have to alternate or something. If you say that each team member must do 50% of the semifinal, then you will probably have an influx of the strongest member of the team going the first two rounds so as to guarantee a higher final placement. If you require them to alternate, with 2D/3D alternated accordingly, that'll be more indicative of their actual position.

I agree the purging a chart is crap unless EVERYONE on that chart consents. Still, for small charts where people are still active, I don't think it should be ruled out.

If the charts are split, the system should be set up such that if you submit to one version, you are either b& from the other, or it wipes your old stat to do so. For example, say we're talking about a given level in Sonic Adventure. Say you have an orange time for it on DX. Say you get ahold of a Dreamcast and get a red time. Either you should have to request permission to have it changed, or submitting for the dreamcast makes it like your DX time never existed, basically a suspended stat?

I understand that'd be completely ridiculous to work out, but that's my suggestion. Still, I strongly recommend you not purge any charts without the consent of every single player in said chart.

1 - how soon after Christmas you would be available for the convention
I can leave no earlier than 12/26, but screw anyone who thinks they can hold me up on my birthday

2 - how late into January you would be available for the convention
I MUST be home by January 3. See why I'm fairly sure I can't come?

3 - what gaming systems you may be able to bring with you +games
Well, I have two gamecubes, but only enough cords for one and only two controllers. I have a GCN-GBA connector somewhere around here and a GBA to match. I also have a DS Lite. For games, I own a crapton of Sonic games for the GCN, I think everything except Riders. Also Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon Box. Box FTW. For my GBA all I have of note are some pokemon titles, and for my Lite I have Pokemon Pearl, Sonic Chronicles, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness, and Brain Age.

4 - do you have a laptop you would be bringing with you
By then? I might just.

5 - do you have any dietary restrictions
I'm mildly lactose intolerant. I can have any dairy in a small enough quantity, but my total consumption can't have more lactose than half a glass of milk--and the more I approach that, the less comfortable everyone around me is. Since cheese has very little lactose, I can have a decent amount of pizza without a problem (but I HATE cheese), but I can't have milk-based deserts for most part, can't drink milk except for a tiny bit, can't have really milky mashed potatoes, can't have yogurt or frozen yogurt. Due to the way ice cream is made I seem to be okay with a decent amount as long as it's not cheap ice cream. Also, whey protein for the win.

I generally don't like anything though, and don't really eat vegetables (except for carrots!<3). Also I won't eat seafood. I have some kind of primal gut instinct capital NOOO reaction whenever I do. I also refuse to eat anything made from the digestive system or brains of an animal (tongue, ripe, head cheese, etc).

I understand that my dietary restrictions are effing crazy, and would like to point out that I have no qualms with subsisting on fast food for this convention on the tiny off chance I can afford to go. Please do not plan around me unless for some reason you really want my opinion on a dish or something.

Regarding finals, I think that before the tournament starts, players should be asked which games they can submit for, or, the games for each matchup should be chosen from the levels that player/team has already submitted for.

My question is, how do teams work in these head to heads? If only one member of a team has a given game and that's the game for the week, then one member would end up sitting out...

As far as deciding on which levels aren't acceptable and which are, maybe we should all work together to try and vet games and levels. Maybe do committees for each game. I'd be willing to head up a Shadow committee. I kind of fell asleep on the job this time around, otherwise I would have asked flyby to exclude lost impact due to the basically random artificial chaos splatter configurations. Any thoughts? Any interest?

Suggestion--maybe instead of using "Si" "So" "Sh" for Silver/Sonic/Shadow, maybe "i" "o" and "h" would work better? Although "o" could be mistaken for Omega, although Omega would more properly be w.
