General Sonic / Re: Sonic 3D Blast Speedrun
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:29:05 pm »
So here I am. Finished my run in 25:35 which is 4secs slower than Shadow Jacky's 25:31. Gotta pay homage to the guy, that's one helluva time to beat. Anyway next I'll try to rerun:
Green Grove 1 hoping for :50 (-2s)
Volcano Valley 2 hoping for sub 1:00 (-2s)
Panic Puppet 1 hoping to beat record (-3s)
That should be sufficient to steal 1st place in total time.

In case that won't work I hope I can improve Spring Stadium 1, Volcano Valley 1 and Gene Gadget 2 each at least by one second. Let's just hope it won't come to that as it seems to be a lot of work for such a minor improvement.

Thanks for following ;)

Back to Sonic 3D.
I'm currently running Green Grove 2, Rusty Ruin 2 and Spring Stadium 2. I'm getting some nice results, it certainly feels like records in these levels can be beaten. As for the first acts on these zones, I'm having no such luck there.
Haven't progress further yet.

Well from my personal eperience I can say you wanna avoid the fans where you lose the most time. Once you master the rest of the route it all boils down to getting that part right. It's the trickiest part too because the speed makes timing of the jump immensely difficult. I did spend hours and hours getting it right.
You may also wanna experiment with not using your full speed as you spindash off the platform. That way it's easier to get the jump right. And I'm sure you can finish in lower28s that way quite easy.

While you're at it, could you record Chrome Gadget's strat? Sub-28 is absurdly fast.
Not sure I wanna commit myself to your challange but there's a guide posted from the days I did that. There's also a version with pics posted on the site me and my buddy launched back in 2003 and through which Rolken actually contacted me. Perhaps it can offer some clarification.

Hello Soniccenter!
I can see that all of my Sonic 3D records from 8 years ago are long surpassed so here I'd like to announce my firm decision to reclaim some of them.
Gonna take me a while to get in the shape but my Green Grove times are already looking promising ;)

Good to be back.

Hey man, good to have you back.

In a fact, I'm going through the same thing myself. Came back to the site a few days ago, uploaded some times from long time ago and some new ones - you get the idea.

Anyhoo I guess from time to time some of us just go through these phases or get these "I-need-some-Sonic-action" cravings or whatever. At least for me it's not the first comeback and to be honest, certainly not the last one. And then you come here and see that everything's working just fine, a lot of new stuff is going on but mainly that guys here are as much fun as you remember it and it simply is great to be around.

Okay, I have to confess I am a little bit confused here. I watched a neat video at
http://ia300220.us.archive.org/1/items/Sonic2_IL/Sonic2_cp2_039_HQ.mp4
where Joe Stanski storms Chemical Plant Zone, Act 2 in :39. Yet the former record ( Joe's and eredani's ) was :52. I honestly don't get it.

Hi dudes!
I wasn't here for a couple of months and have to say i missed you a lot :)
I see all of my S3-Time Attack recs were beaten, well done Ghost! Esp. E time is impressive, I never liked that one :-\ *congrats*
In a moment I'm not in a good form :) and have no intention to make any new speedrun but one never knows, maybe one day - I'll be back. In a fact, I haven't launched Gens for a three months or so, but yesterday I finally made 20 in Emerald Hill 1! What a feeling! After 11 years! Yuppiee!
Bye for now, you'll see me much more frequentely from now on!

« on: April 15, 2004, 03:29:22 pm »
Whose run?  :P
Work harder!   <_<
First lap - 3"60 no problem
Second lap - 3"40 jumped through (below 3"30 is possible with this tactics)
Third lap - 3"40 the same
Foufth lap - 3"70 jump into the hole (3"50 is possible)
Final lap - 3"70 the same
-----------------------------------------------
17"80 no problem, > 17"50 possible, > 17"30 for hardcore nuts :)
(no video yet, pic couldn't have been uploaded)

Actually, there are 2 methods of that jump. Vertical jump is slower, but there's also some kinda oblique jump and that's probably 0"30 faster. However, 2 seconds are safed not because of this jump but because there's no need of chasing the hole anymore..

erm, wanted to psot pic, but "The requested file upload failed. This is either because it was not in the correct format, or the file size was larger than that allowed. Please check the file you wish to upload and try again." error occures  ;)

Got a question for you all (especially for those who know a bit about Sonic3). I wanna know if I can post my 17.85 Balloon Park time reached by the jump through moving floor. You know, sometimes you just fly through; this has no reasonable explanation. It's not forbidden in Balloon Park rules, it's very weird though. So what we gonna about it? I suggest prohibit to post times gained by this error by the addition to BP rules.
BTW > this is the first time I'm not sure whether my time is legit :)

But in a fact, that's quite of no use in a real time-attack, isn't it? :)
