Hey I'm just signed up to the forum. After recently watching some of you guys run sonic games so expertly I decided I'd relive my childhood and get some classic sonic games. I'm trying to speed run sonic 1 at the moment and I'd really like to learn how to do some of the amazing zips iv seen. Can someone direct me in the right way so I can learn them? Thanks again

welcome to TSC, Sonic 1 is one of my main games, and it's one I've really enjoyed playing, within about 6 months you should be able to play this game to a pretty good standard, being able to do every major zip too.

I think naegleria has a tutorial somewhere however I'm unable to find that.
The best thing you could do is look on teentee314's youtube channel, he's probably the best sonic 1 speed runner out there. http://www.youtube.com/user/TeeNTee314

The other place to get help is to head over to http://soniccenter.org/chat there are people there (including myself) who can help you out with various things in Sonic 1 and other sonic games. Best time to catch me online there is probably at weekends, friday evening to sunday evening. :)

Thanks! Iv looked at his YouTube channel already. I can get myself to zip but i never level wrap. Like on MZ2 I zip left then underneath to my death! I have literally only just started speed running though so I'm not expecting miracles.

well for marble act 2, you need to zip at the correct moment, and jump the frame after you zip

Sorry to sound dumb but a frame is such a short period of time how are you able to input to jump that quickly?! I can zip but my timing must just be a bit off

i press jump and right at the same time and hope for the best :P

Sounds like the door clip in '06 (Shadow and at times Sonic), except right is pause :P

Haha I just panic and hope for the best but no luck at the moment. I have managed to nail falling down to my death at the moment. Do you hold right or just quickly tap? And thanks focussight64. I'd like to become competitive at it but for now I need to practice a lot and I'm just playing casually at the moment.
