In Sonic and Knuckles,  how do the competitors score so many points in one level?

I have no idea how it is possible.

So can someone tell me how those scores are possible?

Also, I'd like to know where the respawning badnik is in Lava Reef act 1 for Sonic.

By scoring so many points you just keep killing the same badnik over and over again without losing the combo. For example, in Mushroom Hill 1 and 2 when you go slightly off screen, the mole badnik will appear again. To make sure you don't break the combo you just make sure to land on the lever from the mushroom.

Now I want to know where the respawning badnik is in Lave Reef act 1

Ok good. I think it's by the first lift, that's where I did my spawning, but the time attacking skills suck on that act so my score isn't very good.
