iOS Version of Sonic 1
« on: June 03, 2013, 02:31:42 pm »
With the new release of Sonic 1 made by Christian Whitehead, I bring this question to the table. Will this version of Sonic 1 have it's own separate category for submission? This version always runs at 60fps, has no speed cap, and has the Spin Dash on by default.

I was going to install this to my iPod tonight and see what it's like. I have seen videos of it on youtube and from what I can see, you can also play as Tails and Knuckles, just like the hack versions. Because of this and the spindash if there are going to be charts of this game it should be separate, just like Sonic CD versions.

The one thing that might stop putting charts up could be lack of players because it's only on iOS maybe. However, we do only have 2 players on Free Riders, 16 on Episode Metal, 20 on Black Knight, 6 on All Stars Racing DS and 12 on Sonic Jam. Plus more people do own iPods, iPhones and iPads and we allow the iOS version on other games such as Sonic CD and the Episode games.

I personally would compete if charts were made and probably the other guy who already created a similar topic to this a while ago. So at the moment it seems we have three people interested in this.

Sorry for double post but after playing the game I found a lot if interesting things.

tl:dr
1) Tails and I presume Knuckles as well have different routes in M3 and one of the acts in SY so maxed rings from the old version will be higher.

2) Glitches don't work anymore, they got patched up.

3) There's a time attack mode (Sonic only)that includes Special Stages.

4) In time attack mode you get a score at the end of SB3 and FZ, so you could SA those.

So really I think this would be interesting to have charts up for this game, plus Thorn said he couldn't see why they couldn't be added.

EDIT: Just found out you can play as Super Sonic on it, but I doubt it'll be useful for competition anyway >_>

Here is the chart for Sonic 1 2013. This is subject to change. I think this is done now.

Times aren't done in TA mode since it tracks sonic only. Special stages are tracked in TA mode with the centi-seconds format. Special Stage rings are in a separate division as act rings to be more consistent with the older version's chart. The game does actually track scores for SB3 and FZ but only in TA mode so that would be Sonic only.

Yes, you can play as Super Sonic, Super Knuckles, and oddly enough, Super Tails. The only thing that requires this is the use of Level Select, because there is no way to activate this otherwise. In level select, you can either initiate Debug Mode, or change options in the game that Christian Whitehead doesn't allow you to change otherwise. These include:
The option to change player, despite if you didn't unlock Tails or Knuckles.
The option to turn On and Off the Ground/Air Speed Caps, to make it more retro.
The option to turn On and Off the Spike Glitch that was originally in Sonic 1.
The option to change the item sets during the game, which include Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 1 + Sonic 3, and Sonic 2 + Sonic 3.
The option to change the Max Emeralds from 6 to 7, which isn't available otherwise.

I hope that clarifies some things.
