I recently started speed running sonic and knuckles, and I want to attempt the zip in the beginning of lava reef two (the glitch where you run underneath the signpost and get pushed into the ground). however most of the time the box does not appear when the signpost lands, so I'm curious as to how to consistantly allow the box to appear. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i think you have to bounce the post so that it lands in a certain place for the box to appear

well ive never thought of trying that. i thought that it had a lot to do with time and ring based factors, but after messing around with those ive had no luck. i'll definitely give your strategy a try though, thanks.

Yeah the item boxes at the end of act 1s are buried underneath specific spots and they pop up if the sign lands on them. Just check the maps to see where exactly they are.

edit: Actually looks like the LR1 map doesn't have items but Mushroom Hill and earlier should if you need it for any other level.

i find it really hard to do the lavareef zip, so I can't really test it, but why does it not work on other levels? would sonic just die on a level like mushroom hill for example?

use an emulator and turn off background layers individually at the end of a level until you can see the item boxes buried.

Thank you all for the help, I've been able to locate the box in LR1 after the boss. I am now faced with a new problem though.. running under it to trigger the LR2 zip lol.

About 50 minutes in. It's the same principle with sonic or knuckles only you have to roll under and stop before you destroy the box and it's really really goddamn stupid.

I actually have seen this video, but I didnt know that you have roll under and stop with sonic and knuckles. its pretty simple with tails, but you're right TimpZ it does sound frustrating

I found it very useful. its a good guide, I just wish I had more time to dedicate towards watching it.
