2D is better by far, but 3D is fun too and kept Sonic going through the last decade.

I like the 2D Sonic games an awful lot, but something about the 3D games, Dreamcast in particular, appeals to me more. I'd have to say 3D.
Records are best beaten by friends. Even when you don't know anyone on an entire website.

I prefer a fusion of both.  Something like a cross between Sonic Adventure, Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Super Mario 3D Land, with a bit of the plane switching from Shantae: Risky's Revenge splattered in.

A real man can dream...

I'm kind of torn, really.

2D is awesome, but the 3D sections in Sonic Generations were brilliant.

For me it's always been 3d. I just seem to get more excitement out of it, and 2D just somehow doesn't seem as fun. Though generations totally changed that prospective. Even though I started on Sonic 1 & 2, my next game was Adventure, then all the 3d games. 3d for me.

Championships: Sonic Unleashed DLC.

I like both. I'm one of the old and new school Sonic fans.
I love to play Mario and Sonic games with a mix of Donkey Kong and Kirby games. Yes I'm a Nintendo nerd.

Well, 2D sonic games (Genesis era that is) a basically a clinic on level design and platforming gameplay, while 3D games are usually a buggy mess with spotty design at best. 2D by far. They are timeless classics that never seem to age.

Try Sonic Generations.  It's very good.

Why does everyone prefer 3D?! Any real Sonic gamer... never mind. Anyway, Alondite IS right. Although I still enjoy 3D, don't get me wrong...

I only posted that image because I saw an opportunity for a pun.

Anyway, I think Generations kind of got what I expect right.  It's in both 2D and 3D, but doesn't let either Sonic actively switch planes in 2D.  Maybe SEGA might want to work on that.

Might as well.

I prefer 3D over 2D since I didn't grow up with the Genesis titles (that and the first Sonic game I actually got far into was Heroes).

I like both, but I favor 3D because, one, I grew up with the 3D games and, two, I like the idea of being able to move in all directions.
