Anno 1602
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:53:30 am »
Ever since I found that program that allows me to play it in windowed mode, I have become relatively (from two weeks in which I barely played anything at all) addicted to Anno 1602 again. Brings back memories, heh.

Micromanagement. You build up a network of colonies and have to ensure that your people are happy, that all the goods you and they need are available in satisfying numbers, and of course that you gain more money from taxes than you lose from entertaining your industries. At later points in a campaign you might also be forced to wage war against the 4 CPU (or online) rivals, or even pirates.
In other words, you build up a colonial empire and have to manage EVERYTHING. While nice music plays, including stuff like Greensleaves.

Greensleeves**

Also, it's a past version of Enemy Nations... which if you haven't played, you should, as it's a free download, now, thanks to the fantastic people who originally made and marketed it saying "ok, we got our money back... now let's have people have fun!", unlike some bastards (yeah, Square, I'm lookin' at you for killing CT's fan-revamp... because it really would've been better than your retarded DS port!)

Oh is it. Well it's also the prequel of Anno 1503 and Anno 1701.
German-Austrian video game cooperation yields quite awesome results. :(

It is, sort of. Without the AoE part though. You can set up a small army (and of course a fleet), but combat isn't that important, especially not the one on the ground.

LOOK AT MY COLONIAL EMPIRE ISN'T IT GREAT

Heh, I just heard about this series a few days ago. I'm disappointed to hear it's mostly micro; I thought it sounded like my kind of game, but endless micro isn't.

So is it available in English? Sounds like something I'd like to try.  Also what are Anno 1503 and Anno 1701?  I'm assuming same game, different time periods? Which one is best?

Anno 1503 and then Anno 1701 are its sequels, I never played them however. And I think it is available in English, under the name of 1602 A.D..

I'll probably try that out too.  Is it the same concept, or something slightly different?

PPA I'm not sure if I want to know how long you've been working on that, but tell us anyway.
