I'm well aware we have a Hax0ring forum, but it's dead, and if League and Marathon stuff can go here instead of in Competition Central, then... yeah.
Anyway,
HackTube. Too many times have I seen
Guy A: "Sonic Team sucks and is all gimmicks now, dicks, etc."
Guy B: "Hey have you tried that game by [insert fan name here]?"
Guy A: "Naw, that'll suck balls, Ima go play Sonic 2 a bunch more."
Well, now you have no more excuses. Whereas before you had to download hacks, boot up your favorite emulator, try it, hate it, and then delete it, HackTube cuts out the middle steps! You can sample hacks on the laggy, music-destroying Java Applet on each hack's HackTube page. Don't like what you see? No problem, just go do something else, and that copy of the hack you "downloaded" to play it in the applet will disappear from your temp folder when you browser decides to clean house. Do like what you see? Use the
Download link under the Java Applet to save a copy, and play it on a real emulator in all of its 60fps, SMPS glory.
We've already got a testimonial to the greatness that is HackTube:
<mike89> before I had no excuse [not to try fan creations] and was just being an asshole
<mike89> but now I genuinely don't have time to be playing hacks :(
One more satisfied TSCer for the record!
Recommended hacks:
-
Sonic 3D: No Flickies Hack - Exactly what it says on the tin. Makes the game too easy, but perhaps more fun...?
-
Sonic 2 Retro Remix - My hack, plugging omg. Eight-act layout hack, with art for a few levels done by DNXDelta and music help from Tweaker.
-
Sonic 1 - Return to the Origin - Also what it says on the tin. Play through the levels of Sonic 1 in reverse... some areas are modified to be playable backwards, of course.
-
Sonic 2 Armageddon Game - A fun eight-act layout hack.
-
Sonic 2 Advanced Edit - Only six acts long and not without bugs, but an extremely impressive layout and art hack.
Obligatory "discuss".
