None of them are hard.

Sonic 2 was cake walk when I was 8. I started video games at 7.

Actually Sonic 2 really wasn't that hard if I think about it.
With a brain that works about 50%.

Oh dear.
I have yet to beat the worm boss of Underground.  Therefore, I have no idea if the game gets easier, I can only hope.
Sonic 1 GG, on the other hand, I could beat pretty easily in an hour with little-to-no practice.  The Jungle boss was consistently the hardest part of the game.  Yes, more so than Labyrinth.
Im in ur TSCz, climin ur chartz!

Stand at the right side of the screen, not left.

Jump over the rocks when they fall down, not when they bounce up.

Honestly.

I'm not sure which Sonic 2 you were playing, because in my copy, there's no safe place where you can just stand and jump over low balls, as the high balls bounce off different positions.

As I said at Retro, you can quibble about what level of difficulty is acceptable, but it's pretty factual that there is a much lower margin of error on Game Gear Sonic 2 act 3s than any other Sonic game. I mean, the first boss of the 8-bit version puts the final boss of the 16-bit version to shame in difficulty.

And, well, look at Green Hills 3. You have no idea where you're going or where you'll land, and if you land in the wrong place you die! The only way you can call that a "cake walk" is if you've played it enough to have memorized the proper input or layout, and at that point I don't think you can accurately judge difficulty.

Guys, if you play the Master System version, the first boss will be really easy.

Overally, I think the difficulty of Sonic 2 8-bit is OK, since you can collect infinite lives!
There is no sense crying over every mistake! You just keep on trying till you run out of cake!

You can jump over the low ones whenever you want. I was talking about the high ones. Of course I'm not saying just stand to the right and jump in place. You have to jump to the left (the opposite direction of the balls). Again, this is all very very obvious.

And, well, look at Green Hills 3. You have no idea where you're going or where you'll land, and if you land in the wrong place you die! That level took 3 or 4 times to get right I admit. But considering all you have to do is hold right except for the before-last spring, it wasn't much of a challenge. I don't know if I'm lucky, but I noticed about just having to hold right to get almost to the end on the first try. I had no idea what was going on but it was fun to look at.

like ST said MS version is easier than the GG version because the MS versions balls bounce very low.

The Jungle boss was consistently the hardest part of the game.

Damn! I remember how annoying was that boss when I was a child and tried to defeat him (I was like 7 years old). Now it should be easier for me, but who knows... Labyrinth's boss was a pain in the ass too. :(

I have never finished Sonic 2. I run out of batteries before I manage to finish it because I get stuck on Crystal Egg Act 2 (this was past summer...). Not that I have tried it many times, but it's still sad to get stuck on a 2D Sonic game being 21 years old. >_> Well, like a zillion players, I was stuck on Casino Night Act 2, but I finally figured out how that damn spinning box worked. Someday I will play it on Sonic Adventure DX to figure out which is the fucking right pipe and finish that stage and the game once and for all. So don't give me advice, please.
