Sonic now *officially* UNLEASHED
« on: April 03, 2008, 12:34:20 pm »
In which SEGA bows to reality.

Most of the stuff is already known. It's confirmed for PS2/Wii/PS3/360, and there's "four new modes" they apparently don't want to tell us about yet. Aside from that, there's seven continents (zones) on the shattered world, you collect emeralds, at night you're combatty wolf Sonic, Christmas 08, 3D / 2D, yadda yadda. Notably, they say it's been under development for three years, though that could mean anything from 100 people cranking out material to some guy musing whether Sonic would make a better vampire or zombie.

edit: A new mostly-the-same-but-some-different-parts trailer.

Hm, I don't subscribe to NOM any more because it's a piece-of-shit written by children, but I may pick up the next issue if it's got infos.

Maybe.

Heh, a few days ago I decided not to continue my expiring subscription for the same exact reasons.
NOM was great. It was funny, well-written, colourful yet charming and had good reviews. Then it was replaced by ONM with its unfunny to embarrassing captions, totally biased reviews, oh so stylish but also boring design and... well, it's full of shit basically. I raged at least twice an issue. :/
GIVE US BACK NOM!
Also since I live in Germany I can't pick up the next issue then, so please scan it if you do. ;(

EDIT: Also that Greece level looks disappointing gameplay-wise, but the graphics are the shit. <3

Lol PPA I'm pretty sure it turned to shit long before it was NOM.

Actually, for me, pretty much when Seal left. That was a sad day.

Not where I expected this thread to go.  <_<

On topic, not really much new.  The continent thing is interesting, I'm actually curious which one's we've seen and haven't.  Europe is obvious, but the desert one could be Asia, Africa, or Australia, while the giant trees could be Africa, Australia, or one of the Americas.  This makes me REALLY want to see Antarctica though.
As for the gameplay, while we know that the camera can't possibly be done (these look far too cinematic, and the camera doesn't move much) but where it does appear to be operating look darned amazing.
Four modes?  I call one of them to be another Party Mode....  <_<

Having been broken apart by the evil Dr Eggman, it's down to Sonic to put the pieces of the world back together again by retrieving the power of the chaos emeralds.
Sonic Advance 3 anyone?

Also PS2 they still make games for that!?

So, something I noticed watching the official trailer video... Well, people have already commented that the level designs look similar to 3D versions of Sonic Rush, but it didn't strike me until now that the gameplay does also.
Go not to the linguaphiles for help, for they will say both "Yes" and "No" and "That reminds me of an interesting story about long vowels in Upper Sorbian which I must tell you right now..."

I know all of them were set on Earth, but I meant these games were actually based on real-life locations sometimes.

Hey, something I just noticed.  Check out 0:04 to 0:07 on the trailer.  There's one of the sand-colored structures from the "desert" area in the foreground, a large tree in the background.  Furthermore, in the "desert" and "forest" areas, the backgrounds look very nearly identical.  Could we be looking at ONE STAGE with these two?!?!  That's a HUGE stage!

EDIT: And again I kill a topic.  <_<

Next issue with the big preview's out on Friday. Gonna get it.

" So you may have already seen yesterday's Sonic Unleashed teaser trailer featuring a mysterious werewolf. Today we can reveal that the werewolf is Sonic!"

Oh gee, like we couldn't figure that out. That answers SO many questions. <_<

This game better be good. Sega owe us a lot. It doesn't sound too good at the moment, gimmicky werewolf combat system worries me. My hope is that there is as little werewolf as possible, and as much awesome classic sonic as possible. To be honest, if they just took Sonic Adventure 2 and put new levels in it, I'd be there eating it up. That would outclass the recent sonic games SO MUCH! 2d sections are good as well though!

New game play footage is up at IGN. The 3d sections look like Secret Rings style game play done right (looks very responsive) and the 2d sections look solid.
Ever know what its like to get pwned by a book? Sonic certainly does.

Yeah, I just saw it. Looks...pretty good.

Only worries are "lol playing itself" and the overly slow wall-kick. Overall impressions are positive, though, but STILL NO WEREWOLF.

My mouth was wide open while watching this. Those shots high above the ground as Sonic zooms and dives by are great eye candy, I don't think it's ever felt this good since Windy Valley and Speed Highway.

That graphics look absolutely amazing, wow.

Too bad the gameplay looks utter shit. As if they took Sonic Rush and Secret Rings to mix into one turd of awfulness. Speed boosters, rails, a shitty boost move that lets you run through enemies, no platforming or slowing down in the entire video...
What a waste of astounding visuals. :(
