My wish list.
-Leman Russ Tank Squadren (WH40k related). I play IG and plan on using a tank heavy army for big games. Of course I plan on using two Baneblades.
Baneblades are standard fare now? Yeesh, just as well I quit years ago or my Nids would be getting beat even worse by my Space Marine playing friends/hated enemies. :[
What does IG stand for, btw?
IG stands for Imperial Guard. Baneblades became standard last October (complete with all plastic kit, which is the largest plastic kit ever made) when the Apopcalyse rules (for 3000+ games). The baneblade gets 2 lascannons, 3 twin-linked heavy bolters, a demolisher cannon, a co-axial autocannon (get to reroll scatter dice if you use the weapon it's attached to against the same target), and the baneblade cannon (str 9, Ap2, 72' 10 inch blast aka the frisbee), all for 500 points.
Don't quit the game yet, I think Nids got a 4.0 codex recently (a few years back at longest), an all plastic (awesome looking with all the fixings) Carnifex model got released this year along with the Chaos Codex (last September, a really good codex that makes playing as them a lot easier) and in January, Orks. This is the pefect time to get back into the game.
What kind of army composistion does your SM playing rival use? If its mass assault cannons, I can understand your frustration since many consider it a really cheap tactic due to the broken nature of assault cannons (mostly rending on a ranged weapon that strikes four times). Here's some ideas to help you win.
1. Build a "shooty fex". For anti-skimmer, you want enhanced senses with two devourers. For anti-tank, enhanced senses+ twin linked barbed strangler is your friend. One of the biggest weaknesses of Nids is that (unless the unit is a monster or has rending) they don't have much in the anti-tank department. Grey Knight armies also have this weakness.
2. For a close combat fex, take crushing claws, scything talons, tusks, glands of +1WS, toxic miasma, and a scythe tail. You'll be getting so many attacks that you're practically guaranteed to annilate anything it engages in close combat
3. Get a winged Hive Tyrant (order some Balrog wings sprues from Games Workshop). The extra 6' of movement will help you get into assaults much faster.
4. Also take a choice of warriors. A smart player will focus their attentions on your synapse creatures (if not your fastest creatures first).
