More rules questions
« on: June 03, 2007, 06:43:25 pm »
1. Does it matter whether I use Sonic or Metal Sonic stats on SADX?  I have a bunch of old Metal Sonic stats that are better than my Sonic ones.  The difference is only cosmetic, right?

2. Does it matter whether I use the score and ring count from the normal or extra mission with Team Chaotix on Sonic Heroes?  My stats are usually higher with the extra mission.

As far as Im aware, you can use whichever you want on both accounts. I know you can definatly use Metal Sonic for Sonic on DX.

No, for Chaotix you actually must use the normal missions, because there are some missions like Power Plant that benefit from the Extra mission.

However, for Team Sonic, you can use either.
Current Championships: SSR (5/26/08-Now)
Current Leaderships: SSR Chains [0 Point], SC Rings [0 Point], SSR Scores [0 Point], S3D Rings [0 Point], SSR Times, SSR Bosses
Past Leaderships: SA2 Rings, S1GG Rings, SUWii Rings, SBK Times, SBK Chains, SRA Rings, SRA Scores

Thanks.  I Figured Chaotix was the only one that was ambiguous, as the Sonic extra mission is identical to the normal mission for scores and rings (if anything, the normal mission would be easier for the rings) and the Dark and Rose extras don't even calculate final scores.

Quote from: Rules
Sonic Heroes
Use of the Team Blast Glitch is forbidden in all charts except Chaotix Ring charts.

Doesnt say you have to use Chaotix Normal anywhere, use the Extra Mode if you can get a higher score by doing so.

My personal opinion is that Normal mode must be used, since Extra is theoretically different, like on Power Plant as mentioned. With 2 extra enemies and legal TBG for those charts, there can be a significant difference.

I vote move to Rules Revisions. And Normal mode. >_>

Hold up.  Legal TBG is only for Chaotix RAing.  It's banned on all other charts, including the Extra charts.

It has always been assumed that the normal mission is used for Chaotix scores. I know I proposed a bill to add the extra scores to Chaotix missions some time ago. Now would be a good time for the If I had a (ban)hammer people to put this to vote to prevent any chaos. *Votes aye
-Edit: The following stages high higer scores as a result of extra missions: Power Plant, Bingo Highway, Bullet Station, Lost Jungle, Hang Castle, Final Fortress. Mostly due to extra combo potential.

I think all of the extra Chaotix missions's scores be added (with the exception of the time limit missions) because others that you didn't mention may also give you lower scores, resulting in difference :P

I'd also like to request a vote on Sonic extra rings and  Chaotix extra rings for the time limit levels. Because of the time limit on those 18 levels, you have to collect a lot of rings but fast to beat the limit. You'd have to be extremely fast to max one of those charts <_< (though, with extreme luck, Casino Park and BINGO Highway are maxable)

Thoe stages are easier to max out than you think. In Casinopolis, there are VIP slots that give double rings. Bingo Highway has the bingo stuff and the slots. With enough time, you can easily max out Bingo Highway.

wait wtf?  I've all of my scores I have gotten WAY better doing them in normal than in extra because in normal I can set a quicker path to finish the stage rather than having to kill everything or whatever to finish the stage.  I still vote for extra scores though, but seriously its better in normal.  Also why should rings matter if you did them in normal or extra?

Okay, sounds like this isn't so obvious after all.  I could see extra points on Seaside Hill, too (that's why I asked, because my extra is higher than my standard for that level).

Another couple of questions (no longer necessarily to do with SADX and SH)
Why exactly is there a freestyle stat for Marble Garden 2?
What do the "overall" stats mean?  I can't find comparisons of those anywhere.

If you click "overall" and it shows a bunch of points, that's points from the various charts (0 points for first place, 1 for 2nd, 2 for third, etc) in a group, all added up, to give you an overall score.  Done automatically.

THere's also some places where "overall" shows a bunch of times, which are just the normal "times" -- they don't count twice, there's just an extra link, that's all.

I always assumed it was legal to submit chaotix extra times/rings on chaotix normal times/rings charts, and have done so in the past both here and on cyberscore.  Furthermore I recall having asked about this very issue and being told it was okay.

I always found normal to be better anyway (then again I cant remember if there was ever a time where I used extra for rings), so I never had a problem with it.

well, here's something else that can be brought up before more chaos starts

Also why should rings matter if you did them in normal or extra?

Because of the time limit? You collect as many rings as you can within the time limit, so you'll have to collect them fast. Believe me, there is a difference <_<

There will probably not be much of a difference in extra Chaotix ring missions. The reason for this is that TBG is legal for ring attacking combined with the random nature of rings obtained with their team blast. There might be some difference with Team Sonic missions though.

Why exactly is there a freestyle stat for Marble Garden 2?

For stuff like this.

I'm against the tracking of it entirely (because it doesn't actually complete the level), but it remains there in the freestyle division. Consistency in that regard is something that needs looking at.

Yet another question:
Is entering special stages in S3D score charts allowed?  My first score attack on Green Grove 1 put me on the chart at first place, mostly because I had a decent Tails bonus.  The bonus came from Tails rings, not the special stage itself.  I know that as a player whos average stats are in the green levels, getting a white on my first shot at something is probably wrong.

P.S. mike: the clip doesn't work.  I only get sound, even on VLC.

No, it's not. I was just alerted to it and changed the rules page accordingly.

As for MG2: if you take a spinning top right the way to the top of the level on Sonic 3 alone, you can pass above the screen (this doesn't work in S3&K because the spinning top object refuses to go above screen height). Continuing to move up for about 20 seconds lifts you over the ceiling height, and you can then "land" on whatever is up there to move quickly forwards. As you approach Knuckles' boss zone, you jump off, and sometimes the screen will fade to black and you'll reappear at the start of the act with a huge and unexplainable bonus.

Glad I could be of assistance.  Though I am a little disappointed now that my score isn't so great.

EDIT: Another question.  This one takes the cake: I'm assuming it isn't allowed for time charts to let the time run out and then start with 0:00 from the last star post, right?  It isn't posted anywhere.  But, PLEASE don't tell me it isn't legal to die in a run, or else a number of my times will probably be wrong (and I don't know which ones).

Yeah it's not allowed and it should be clearly stated as a general rule. Dying is fair game though.

Bad news: more questions.
1.  It isn't stated in the S2 Knux Ring charts that you cannot lose a life in the attempt either, when death will leave K.T.E with the same number of rings he touched the starpost with, and all the other rings are respawned.
2.  Do I need to collect the emerald in the S1 special stage charts for my ring stat to count?

1. Most people just restart their run upon losing a life out of habit. I'll have to throw that in the rules too.

2. Given you get a ring bonus anyway, you can still claim the rings even if you don't get the emerald.

Are you saying they'd have to restart the whole run as S2Knux when ring attacking because it keeps your rings?

Well were allowed to die in TA runs and restart from checkpoints, why not for RA's? <_<

Yeah, that's NO GOOD.
And did we ever actually reach a conclusion on the Chaotix stats?  Because I just did an amazing extra mission run on Grand Metropolis that I would really like to put on for stats.  At least, it shouldn't matter for Grand Metropolis, Rail Canyon, and Frog Forest, because the extra mission is just basic mission plus a time limit, right?  Someone just needs to post a final verdict on this.
Cheez, do I wish I had my old save for SH.  I had all emblems, all emeralds and all A's, plus had finished Super Hard Mode, so I could just have uploaded everything and worked from there.  Instead I need to start from scratch and beat every A over again.  I'm dreading Bingo Highway; that stage was HORRIBLE with Team Chaotix.

Same for Egg Fleet.  I don't see any reason you can't submit those stats, since they're no different.

You are allowed to submit scores and times for Grand Metropolis, Rail Canyon, Frog Forest, and Egg Fleet because there is absolutely no difference ('cept the time limit). Maybe we should start a topic or something on these extra charts?
