before anyone else gets confused, yes, it is possible to have both of those tournies on the Internet. I think this'd be cool if we could get together enough people who wanted to do it.

Hey, would y'all be interested in an inter-Sonic-board Pokemon tourney? Like, four people from each of TSC, Cult, Stadium and GameFAQs, or something to that effect. That is, if we could get the people from the other boards interested.

I've been doing my research, you can use PBS (Pokémon Battle Simulator) for R/B/Y online, or download NetBattle for G/S/C and R/B/Y and set up a server or something. Then there are IRC Bots which I know nothing about.

But, I have discovered thus:

My team, save Mew and maybe Charmeleon, is rubbish.
NetBattle assumes max stat exp. Whatever the hell that means.

It's easy to play over the internet. If you use PBS all you do is make a name and a password. Then, you make your team. You don't have to use your gameboy team. Then you go in the waiting room and wait for someone to come in and then you have the option to battle with them or not.

Once in battle, you can either select a move or switch pokemon.

The winner is the person who still has at least one member of their team still alive.
The Loser is the person who loses all six members of their team in battle.

You don't need your gameboy or cable or anything, just make a team and go.

Also note that this was for the PBS not the IRC bots or Netbattle.

I stand by my original opinion. A dinkybomb tournament would be easiest. The server we will use should probably be either Lilywhite or Office friendly, as people tend not to do offensive things there. If we had a Dinkybomb tournament, I would do very well...I have 60 consecutive wins in that game  B)
Edit: Oh man, they changed the game. Now you're computer needs to be really advanced to play it    But I'd play globulos in a tournament.......that game is pretty good. Or even the battledome at neopets.com... but that is too kiddy for me

As far as I can tell, Pokemon has (had?) the only fan base devoted enough to pull something like that off.

blueblaze, it's better to pick something that people know they like already. ;x

I used to use the IRC bots for Pokemon battles. I wasn't any good, but meh :P

I'd be interested in that or MTG if anyone's prepared.

BTW, I like the idea of getting players from other boards to compete in our tourney. However, do people like me count as TSC or GFAQs players?

Most of us were offshoots from GameFAQs, so we all count as from here.

Hey, something I dislike about NetBattle is that it doesn't let you enter the stats, you have to use DVs. Also, this way stat up and PP up drugs have no effect, because they're all default.

With IRC Bots, can you enter the stats?

I know you can with PBS, but that's RBY only.

I'm pretty sure IRC bots only let you enter DV's. And even then, they're defaulted at 15, and I'm pretty sure they can only be changed if you want to put a HP on a given Pokemon.

Or if you have a non-physical attacker, and want to set its attack DV to 1 to avoid hurting yourself to badly in confusion (or to transform into a female to get around possible uses of Attract).
