I might as well put this to a vote. If folks really want S1GBA competition, I'll put it up. But I reserve the right to make an extremely sarcastic newspost about it.

edit: the votes don't seem to match up with the replies, so I turned on vote changing if somebody made a mistake.

Yes for

1. Completion
2. Replay value

Even if the game is horrible, trying to figure out ways to break it is awesome. Who cares if there isn't many players.

I'd have to say yes, becaue it IS a game (which I'll never get btw).

Although I get to say that Sonic Jam did this first, and hackers did this WITHOUT borking the physics.

EDIT: Matter of fact, I'd compete in Shuffle first.

I won't actively compete in it (seriously, who would?), but eh, why not.

Sonic 1 levels + Sonic Advance physics = championship for me, so yarly ;)

Also no - I agree with the points made thus far but do we really want to attract the kind of person who thinks it's worth playing?  And yes, they do exist.
This topic has now been officially won by me.  Never mind, you might do better next time!

I'll be the first to definitively vote against it I suppose.

Seriously, are there any reasons for tracking it? It's just a poor man's Sonic 1.

I'm for it. It is a Sonic game, so why not? Something for those of us that can't play Sonic Jam, and well, it's a legal Sonic Jam, heh. I'm for Anniversary Mode go to up, as opposed to Classic Mode. Classic Mode is a poor man's Sonic 1 like mike said.
Chaos Emeralds: Yellow, Red, Green, Blue and Purple.
Keys: Light Blue.

Yea, Rolk said he'd put them both up, but Classic mode is just a watered down Sonic 1. Anniversary gives you Spindash making it that much different. Classic is redundant.

Even with spindash the game feels watered down. The physics are so different (albeit total crap) that it makes both modes different enough from the original game. For example, you can get faster than 24 seconds on GH1, without spindash.

No, no, no, no, no.

Couple reasons. First, obligatory rules reference which doesn't really matter.
"Any re-released version of this game (official or unofficial) that has been modified to include the Spin Dash, or which creates a functional change to level layouts, is not allowed."

Second is that it's basically Sonic 1, albeit a lame-ass version at that. Classic is redundant? More like whole game amirite?

Third, and relating to the others, is that it essentially means there's 2 Sonic 1's, and considering some recent user quality there are people who will get confused between the two. And I hate stupid people.

Yeah, basically unless there's a major shift in the voting it isn't happening. Not a huge shock there.

So there won't be any (tracked) competition for S1GBA.

But, can we still get the extremely sarcastic newspost?

I HOPE YOU DO

Sega doesn't need any reason to this we'll actually tolerate crap like S1GBA.

^a good point, assuming you misspelled this for think.

I saw a video of someone(groudon I believe, maybe it was someone else) beating Green hill act 1 in 4 seconds with checkpoint abuse, which could be used on other levels in the same manner making it pointless because almost everyone would have the record, since it would require no skill. :/

i'll vote no though, even without checkpoint abuse I can't even play the game properly due to the jumpy frame rate, I couldn't beat marble zone 3 after many tries because I had such a hard time telling where I was at and when I landed from a jump, it's like I finally realize an enemy is there 2 seconds after I run into him and stuff.l HARDEST 2D SONIC GAME EVER!

Yeah, that was my vid (3 seconds, to be exact).  Also, that checkpoint abuse would be banned anyway, hence the rule, "Any method that resets the clock to zero in the middle of a level is not allowed."

So, pretty much if we get an over abundance vote on adding S1GBA to the ranking it will be added if not it will not be added?

Just want to make sure my eyes aren't playing ticks on me again (btw, I was the first one to vote against it mike).

Checkpoint abuse was already possible in the original Sonic 1, if you waited around for ten minutes.

Anyway, no, it isn't going to happen.
